April 2020 Director’s Note

By Jeanette M. Roe, Executive Director

As the Executive Director of the Twin Falls Senior Center, I would like the public to know that we are here to serve your Senior family member(s) or neighbor. We want you to remain safe in your home with minimum contact without fear, lack of proper daily nutrition, and basic supplies.

The Center closed for activities and congregate meals on March 16, 2020, in order to safeguard the most vulnerable population in our community- Individuals over the age of 60. Meals and activities included in this newsletter were planned prior to the Center’s closure to the general public.

The Center is continuing to provide meals to Seniors through their Meals on Wheels program, along with providing a pickup congregate meal service. If you need help, trust the experience of the Senior Center to help you during this period of uncertainty and the Coronavirus.

When the Center can provide a safe environment for Seniors to enjoy meals and activities, the Center will reopen the doors to the general public and resume scheduled activities. Please be patient, understanding, cooperative and safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Things you can do to support yourself:

  • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories and social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upset-ting.
  • Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.
  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
  • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
  • Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row.
  • Please call (208) 734-5084 if we can help you. We are here to serve the Community and you One Heart at a Time!
